COURSE OVERVIEW

Decision trees - Markov models - Microsimulation models - Discrete event simulation models - Infectious disease models

There are a number of other modeling courses focusing on either theory or only selected modeling approaches. In contrast, our course combines theoretical concepts with practical hands-on exercises comprising five different modeling techniques applied in Public Health and HTA. We will use four different software packages depending on the modeling area. Real world case examples from different acute and chronic diseases will be discussed.

The course is aimed at members of:
  • Healthcare & health policy organizations, national HTA Agencies
  • Pharmaceutical & medical device industry
  • Academia and research institutions
  • Health insurances/sickness funds
  • Consultancy organizations

Course Pre-requisites:
Course language is English. Both native and non-native English speaker scientists are welcome.

AGENDA

  • Modeling overview and taxonomy
  • Decision trees, state-transition models (Markov models) and partitioned survival models
  • Handling uncertainty and variability
  • Microsimulation models
  • Discrete event simulation models
  • Handling individual behavior and waiting lines
  • Agent-based models
  • Handling contact and network structure
  • Infectious disease models
  • Handling dynamic transmissions and herd immunity
  • International modeling expert session (interactive panel discussion)
  • Optional: Course Examination

COURSE DOCUMENTATION

Certificates will be provided to all participants after the course. For those who are interested in a graded course performance record, we are offering a course examination subsequent to the Modeling Workshop. The exam is designed to evaluate the understanding of the basic modeling concepts and is administered on the last day of the course. The exam is a closed-book test mainly consisting of multiple-choice answers, short calculations or open text questions, which are drawn from the major topic areas of the course. Further information regarding the examination and enrollment will be provided after registration.
