As a university that focuses on the health care system and technology, UMIT in Hall in Tirol offers future-oriented academic study programmes for A-level graduates as well as post-graduate studies for people who are already working in the health care sector or who want to gain further qualifications for the health care sector. At our health care university, the study programmes are already designed according to the three-level system of the Bologna Declaration: bachelor programme, master programme and doctorate.
Management of Health Care Companies
As a university focusing on health, UMIT seeks to satisfy the increasing demand for employees with business management know-how in health care institutions and in health economics, which is regarded as the driving for the economy in the future, by offering a study programme in business management in health care. The subject areas covered in this three-year bachelor programme comprise an in-depth and comprehensive training in general business management with a clear focus on health care and health economics.
Nursing Science for Registered Nurses
The bachelor study programme in Nursing Science offered UMIT is designed to meet the increasing scientific and practical challenges faced by the nursing profession. The superior goal of the study programme in Nursing Science at UMIT is to provide the students with basic knowledge of nursing science, natural and social sciences as well as institutional, organisational and legal structures and to provide them with adequate instruments and tools. UMIT offers the following focus areas in Nursing Science: Nursing-related educational science (pursuant to the Austrian Health Care Law from 1997, Section71 on special training for teaching activities), Nursing Management (pursuant to the Austrian Health Care Law from 1997, Section72 on special training for management activities), Nursing Expertise.
Nursing diploma or nursing studies? Why not both!?
A completely new and innovative training concept in the field of nursing is offered by UMIT and the AZW training center for health care professions in Hall in Tirol: the combined nursing studies (for A-level graduates). The contents of the three-year nursing training to become a registered general nurse were combined with the studies in nursing science (with the focus on clinical nursing expertise – three years). The combined nursing studies comprise four years and the graduates are awarded both a diploma in general nursing and the bachelor’s degree in nursing science. In Vienna, the combined nursing studies are offered in cooperation with the Pflegeakademie der Barmherzigen Brüder nursing academy and in Linz with the Vinzentinum der Barmherzigen Schwestern nursing school.
Bachelor study programme in Mechatronics
The bachelor study programme in Mechatronics is incorporated in the technological initiative of the Tirolean provincial government as the first Mechatronics study programme at university level in Western Austria and is being implemented in close cooperation with the public university of Innsbruck (Leopold-Franzens-Universität) and the Tirolean industry and economy. The six-semester study programme focuses on the interdisciplinary correlation between mechanical, electrical, and IT-supported elements and modules in mechatronic systems. The students can already specialize in the fields of Information Technology or Biomedicine during the studies. Further, UMIT offers the acquisition of additional qualifications in the areas of management, communications and foreign languages. One the one hand, the broadly based Mechatronics study programme is the basis for the further development of master’s and doctoral studies at UMIT in the fields of Medical Technology and Biotechnology. On the other hand, urgently needed specialised personnel should be trained at university level for the Tirolean industry.
The bachelor programme in Psychology at UMIT provides knowledge, skills and competencies that qualify the graduates for their work as psychologists in the social sector, in health care, in the education system, in administration, economy, industry and research. Therefore, the study programme focuses equally on profession-related practical orientation, also considering the soft skills that are required for the work as a psychologist, and on the in-depth scientific education in the key areas of psychology.
Health Care IT Specialist study programme (discontinued)
The three-year bachelor study programme in Biomedical Informatics at UMIT provides an in-depth IT training with a clear focus on an academic IT training in the fields of medicine, health and life sciences. This combination of applied informatics with areas of biotechnology allows for a study programme which clearly aims at qualifying IT experts for the booming market of biomedicine. Bachelor graduates of a general IT study programme have the opportunity to qualify for this market through the two-year master study programme in Biomedical Informatics offered at UMIT.
